TWO HYPERSCALE CDC DATA CENTRES

CDC's Silverdale and Hobsonville campuses house Aotearoa New Zealand's first hyperscale data centres. Designed for resilience and efficiency, these facilities ensure the secure management of national critical infrastructure. Since launch, both centres have operated on 100% renewable energy and hold Toitū net carbonzero and Toitū Enviromark Diamond certifications, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Built for high security and availability, these hyperscale centres were the largest and most secure of their kind upon completion. They provide essential digital infrastructure for key industries, supporting government and private sector clients. With advanced connectivity and efficiency measures, these data centres set a benchmark for sustainable, high-performance computing solutions in New Zealand.

Overcoming challenges through expertise

RLB’s experienced team ensured smooth project execution despite global disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic. With unexpected cost pressures and logistical challenges, RLB collaborated closely with CDC Data Centres to deliver cost-effective, resilient infrastructure. The government’s designation of the project as “critical infrastructure” enabled construction continuity, reinforcing the importance of these data centres in national security, business continuity and future-proofed digital capacity.

Collaboration and coordination for success

Delivering two hyperscale data centres simultaneously required detailed risk assessment and proactive cost management. With limited early-stage information, RLB facilitated strategic trade letting, transparency in cost reporting and agile decision-making to ensure seamless execution. Intensive collaboration with CDC Data Centres and contractors enabled a smooth workflow, minimised disruptions, and ensured these state-of-the-art facilities met stringent security and performance benchmarks.
