AUCKLAND CITY RAIL LINK (CRL)

The Auckland City Rail Link (CRL) is a transformative project connecting Britomart Transport Centre to Mount Eden Railway Station, doubling the capacity of Auckland’s rail network and reducing road congestion. It includes two new underground stations – Aotea Station and Karanga-a-Hape Station – alongside upgrades to Britomart and Mount Eden stations.

Building the rail link in a densely populated urban area has required meticulous planning to minimise disruption to transport networks, businesses, and residents. Collaborative efforts have ensured seamless integration with Auckland’s existing infrastructure while preserving the rhythm of daily life.

A key aspect of the project involves constructing cut-and-cover tunnels along Albert Street, necessitating a major diversion of essential services like high-voltage cables and stormwater mains. Pipe jacking has enabled tunnelling beneath the street to install the new stormwater infrastructure while safely replacing the existing system.

CRL promises to ease traffic congestion, shorten commute times, and improve work-life balance for Auckland residents by enhancing the city’s public transport network.
