Congratulations to EBOS Group Limited’s purpose-built facility, the latest addition to The Landing Business Park at Auckland Airport, who took home the CBRE Industrial Property Award at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards.

The 19,000 square metre pharmaceutical grade facility houses New Zealand’s only fully environmentally enclosed yard in a full cold-chain site with zero time out.

This means that all goods – whether they are arriving at or leaving the facility – can remain in a temperature-controlled environment.

As with many construction projects that were built in the past few years, site inspections were not permitted and neither the tenant (EBOS) nor the owner and developer team from Auckland International Airport were able to meet in person until near the end of construction.

For such a complex facility, this meant implementing a very organised and deliberately intensive design strategy, with multiple virtual workshops and a comprehensive peer-review system.

In addition, the facility incorporates a 4-star green sustainability rating and has a system for tracking energy and water performance.

Energy-efficient motion-sensor lighting was installed, as were three 3,000 litre tanks for the storage of rainwater.

Other features include EV charging points, accessibility features and bike racks.

A fraction over 92 per cent of construction waste was diverted from landfills.

Rider Levett Bucknall Director Josh Tattley said,

AIAL’s continued investment in local logistics facilities has paid off again. The successful delivery of this large and complex build is a credit to the project team. It is encouraging to see Green Star-rated projects come to fruition in such prominent and important developments.

The Auckland Fresh Distribution Centre (AFDC) – an outstanding example of complexity with a high degree of specialisation and innovation in cool chain integrity – received a merit within the same category.

Rider Levett Bucknall Director Geoff Speck said, “It was a massive build, needing to chill the equivalent of four rugby fields of space. To achieve 4 Green Star rating for this kind of development is a significant accomplishment, exceeding expectations, while offsetting about 183 tons of CO2 a year.”

Hosted by Property Council New Zealand with the support of Principal Sponsor Rider Levett Bucknall, the Property Industry Awards is the most prestigious property awards programme in New Zealand, celebrating excellence in design and innovation in the built environment for over 20 years.

Rider Levett Bucknall in Auckland Managing Director Steve Gracey said, “It has been RLB’s great privilege to play a role honouring the extraordinary achievements of our industry’s true gamechangers. Congratulations to the 2023 winners for being part of a world-class showcase of purpose-driven spaces.”
