University of Waikato by Jasmax has won an esteemed award at the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards.
Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) provided commercial certainty towards the new university campus.
The new grounds link two streets with a new pedestrian laneway to create a welcoming urban space.
The building is massed into two volumes, establishing a sensitive street scale and articulating different functions within.
Bicultural design and storytelling are embedded in the expression and sequencing spaces, as well as the skin of the building.
The buildings have a great sense of connectivity to place and have established a strong living presence in the city.
Steve Gracey, Managing Director of RLB in Auckland said, ‘We are thrilled that three RLB projects have won awards in the NZIA Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards. Tauranga Crossing, University of Waikato Tauranga CBD Campus, and Zespri were all revealed last week as winning projects that embody the best of sustainable design practices. Rider Levett Bucknall provided commercial certainty on all three projects. Congratulations to all involved in their successful delivery and completion.’
