Natasha Carter, Director of RLB in Victoria, is involved in the rebuild of La Mama Theatre, a not-for-profit institution situated in Carlton, Victoria.
It has been a busy time since the cultural facility was ravaged by fire and the plans for rebuilding this iconic venue are progressing with RLB engaged as the cost consultants.
Despite the tragedy of the fire, there is a significant opportunity for La Mama to make some adjustments such as improving accessibility.
A heritage listed building
As a heritage listed building, the intention is to restore the beloved theatre to its humble, intimate self, honouring its rich past and preparing it for a fruitful future.
The size of the performance space will not change and architect Meg White aspires to recreate its mood, simplicity and magic.
The rebuild team
La Mama has engaged architect Meg White to lead the restoration. As well as being an architect, Meg has worked for more than 25 years in theatre as both a performer and a designer.
The rebuild is expected to be complete by the middle of 2020.
