Flinders University’s impressive new Plaza and Student Hub, located at the Bedford Park campus, has been named the South Australian Development of the Year.
Flinders University was presented with the South Australian property industry’s top accolade at the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Development of the Year cocktail party on 27 April 2017.
Delivering more than 11,000 square metres of enhanced facilities, the $63 million project involved a complete refurbishment of the Union Building, extending it into the Central Library, a revitalised retail and entertainment precinct alongside, and a new front entrance to the university.
Meeting the needs of students, staff and the local community
A comprehensive student engagement project was undertaken to determine the key needs of students and staff, and to inform the concept design process.
Andrew Suttie, Managing Director of RLB in South Australia said, ‘This impressive project has created a dynamic precinct redefining the way students, academics and the local community use the campus.’
‘The opening of the Plaza and Student Hub in March 2016 coincided almost 50 years to the day since Flinders University was opened, symbolising the university moving into its next 50 years, as a progressive institution that underpins the economic, cultural and educational life of South Australians,’ he added.
RLB provided cost management and quantity surveying services on the project. The project team was led by Andrew Suttie and Stephen Knight.
The 2017 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners will be announced on Friday 5 May, at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.
RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.
