The University of Technology’s celebrated Dr Chau Chak Wing Building has been presented with the Woods Bagot Award for Best Public Building, at the 2016 Property Council of Australia/ Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards.
The first building to be designed by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, the ‘crumpled paper bag’ was one of seven RLB projects to win on the night. The RLB project team, which provided cost management and quantity surveying services, was led by Director Stephen Mee.
Spectacular inside and out, the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building is a key component of UTS’s $1 billion-plus City Campus Master Plan. It provides learning, research and office space for up to 1600 students and staff in the UTS Business School.
According to Matthew Harris, Managing Director of RLB in NSW, the building is a physical manifestation of the innovative thinking that underpins the learning and research undertaken by the Business School, and UTS as a whole.
RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.
The 2016 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners were announced on Friday 3 June, at a gala dinner at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, attended by over 900 people.
