Sydney’s largest urban regeneration project, Barangaroo South, has picked up the state’s top property honour.

Lendlease was presented with the Property Council of Australia’s RLB NSW Development of the Year Award at a cocktail reception last night.

RLB provided a range of services to Lendlease and its partners, ensuring this unique waterfront city precinct has been brought to life.

Sydney’s largest urban regeneration project in a generation
Barangaroo South will eventually accommodate 23,000 office workers, 2,000 residents, a six-star hotel and 80-plus cafés, bars, restaurants and retail outlets across 535,000 square metres of gross floor area.

Barangaroo South started construction in October 2011 and has staged completions through to 2023, with the first stage now complete.

World-leadership sustainability
According to RLB’s NSW Managing Director, Matthew Harris, Barangaroo South is a test-bed for world-leadership sustainability.

‘Barangaroo South aims to be Australia’s first large-scale carbon neutral precinct, and every aspect has been considered from a sustainability angle, from the design of the buildings and public domain to the materials used and the social impact the development will have on Sydney.

As one of a select group chosen by the C40 Cities/Clinton Climate Initiative’s Climate Positive Development Program, Barangaroo South is shaping up as an international sustainability showcase,’ he said.

Transforming a city
The development has transformed Sydney with a unique blend of architectural styles and mixed uses, attracting people to the precinct day and night.

It has been a spectacular commercial success, with the Anadara and Alexander’s 159 waterfront apartments selling out in three-and-a-half hours in 2013, and International Towers Sydney currently sitting at 84-percent occupancy.

National awards
The NSW Development of the Year Award is part of the national 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.

Barangaroo South is also competing in two categories at the national awards, which will be held in Sydney on Friday 11 May.
