PROJECT POSEIDON
Motability Operations is the commercial organisation that delivers the Motability Scheme to more than 700,000 disabled people across the UK, helping them to access independent mobility. RLB is leading a project to transform the organisation’s vehicle service centre at Coalville, Leicestershire. Using our multidisciplinary expertise, including project and cost management, building surveying, and contract administration and employer’s agent services, we will help deliver a state-of-the art facility that sets new benchmarks in efficiency and sustainability.
The project involves a complete renovation of the existing main building, which will be stripped down to its frame to allow alterations that will support new energy-efficient cladding for the envelope. The refurbished building will incorporate specialised areas for vehicle-related services, such as dedicated paint, valet and imaging bays. Ancillary office spaces will offer contemporary work environments and amenity areas. A state-of-the-art entrance hub will control all vehicles coming in and out of the site.

Excellent environmental performance
In line with Motability Operations’ commitment to sustainability and net zero, one of the key outcomes of the project will be to achieve a minimum BREEAM Excellent rating for the main building, and an Outstanding rating for the entrance hub. Services will be modernised and upgraded to meet the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating.
RLB has also played a pivotal role in securing full planning permission for a new 31,000 sq ft unit, spanning Class E(g)(iii), B2 and B8 categories. When completed, this additional facility will double Motability’s operational capacity. The proposed scheme includes a substation and ancillary car storage area, and well-thought-out landscaping and drainage designed to seamlessly integrate the new facilities with the existing site.
“The comprehensive expertise of RLB will enable us to deliver a transformative project which will not only improve the capacity and operational efficiency our vehicle service facilities, but also help us to meet our sustainability and net zero goals.”Andy Coote, Client Project Manager, Motability Operations
