The RLB Health and Safety team has been awarded a top accolade, the Association for Project Safety (APS)’s CDM Duty Holder of the Year award for its role as principal designer and CDM advisor on the Circle Square development in Manchester.
The awards showcase projects and professionals that have worked to better standards and skills within the health and safety practice of the built environment. The CDM Duty Holder award recognises a team and project, that judged by their peers, has demonstrated outstanding leadership in design and construction health and safety risk management and one that has shown transparent and unswerving commitment to the control of construction health and safety risk management.
Circle Square, developed by Bruntwood and based in Manchester, comprised over 455,0000m² and, with a contract value of over £100m, combined incorporated commercial office buildings, retail units, a hotel and a car park. RLB worked closely with both the client, Bruntwood and the lead designers on the project; Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
Chris Hartley, RLB’s National Head of Health & Safety Services comments, “It is great to be acknowledged for our work at the Circle Square mixed-use development in Manchester. A commitment to ‘total quality’ lies at the heart of everything we do at RLB and being a mixed used scheme comprising of commercial, retail and leisure elements, there were numerous factors and end users to think about and to consider in the design. Working with the rest of the team, the project shows how complex design doesn’t have to come at the expense of health and safety.”
President of the APS, Stella Clutton-Saunders, comments, “These awards are about reflecting the best practice in the business when it comes to health and safety. RLB and the team on Circle Square demonstrated a clear understanding of designing with health and safety to the forefront of the build, with clear communication to all partners involved, close relationships with the project team, client and stakeholders and robust systems in place at every step of the way.”
