HRH The Princess Royal gave iPort Rail her royal seal of approval at the official opening of the multi-modal logistics solution in Doncaster last week.
Rider Levett Bucknall UK (RLB UK) collaborated with leading pan-European logistics developer, investor and asset manager, Verdion, providing them with project management, cost management as well as being the employer’s agent for the high volume, secure and state of the art facilities in Doncaster. iPort Rail joins the existing UK rail network via the South Yorkshire Joint Freight line to open up the Yorkshire region with new road, rail and air connections for national and international transport.
Accommodating up to six trains per day up to a maximum length capacity of 775m, iPort Rail’s facilities can also accommodate HGV traffic with a maximum weight of 50 tonnes and four high container stacks with a maximum load of 122 tonnes. It forms part of Verdion’s 337-acre iPort logistics hub, home to Amazon, CEVA, Fellowes and Lidl as well as providing newly-completed speculative warehouse space in smaller units.
John Clements, European Development Director at Verdion commented, “The new rail hub is an essential part of the wider iPort site with a number of important and very technical aspects that had to be right for the facility to succeed as it has. We needed a team to support us that understood the existing infrastructure and the complexities of the project. RLB’s expertise and experience meant they were a perfect fit for the job, allowing us to successfully integrate iPort Rail with the Network Rail asset.”
