Andrew Reynolds, Chief Executive of leading construction and property management consultancy, RLB UK, has received a prestigious Alumni Excellence Award: Changemaker in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Salford in recognition of his contribution to sustainability in the built environment.
Andrew, who completed a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying, Property and Construction in the Built Environment at the University from 1992 to1996, attended the award ceremony in Salford earlier this week, which celebrates alumni who have demonstrated excellence in their careers, community service, or other areas of achievement.
Under Andrew’s leadership, RLB has been at the forefront of sustainability practices within the built environment, developing a team of over 30 specialists dedicated to helping clients reduce carbon emissions and implement sustainability measures in both new builds and existing estates. Their clients in the North West include the University of Manchester, Cole Waterhouse, Stockport Council and Manchester Met University and the University of Salford itself.
This sustainability focus within the business has included the launch of RLB’s embodied carbon calculation service that provides clients clear, actionable guidance based on robust data, to help meet carbon reduction targets, fulfil sustainability responsibilities, and navigate compliance requirements. In addition to his leadership at RLB, Andrew is an active presence at industry events, participating in research think tanks to promote awareness of the steps necessary for the industry to meet sustainability targets.
Andrew commenting on the award:
“What an honour to receive the Alumni Excellence Award: Changemaker in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Salford’s Alumni awards. With the built environment accounting for 40% of global carbon emissions, our industry has a pivotable role to play in limiting global warming to the Paris Agreement ambition of 1.5ºC and achieving net zero goals. This is the primary focus of my work. To build a sustainable future for us all to occupy, working to change the impact of my industry through shifting skills, innovation and design to give us great places that we can be proud to pass onto future generations; buildings that are efficient, sustainable and bring positive impact to society right across the world. We must do better, and I am proud to be part of that change.
I feel very privileged to have had the educational foundations from the University of Salford that have set me on this path in the built environment, allowing me to support a more sustainable, net zero future.”
University of Salford’s Health of Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement, Sophie Thorp says:
“We’re extremely proud to count Andrew as a prominent member of our vibrant community of alumni, and absolutely delighted to be celebrating his achievements with him here today, where it all started. Andrew is an exemplary role model for all those considering a career in the built environment sector, especially our current students and recent graduates, and we’re thrilled to have played a part in both shaping his outlook and helping him to forge a lifelong pathway with RLB in this critical field.”
