Inspire Learning Trust has secured £77,000 by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero through the Phase 5 Low Carbon Skills Fund. The funding bid was led by construction and property management consultancy, Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB UK) with the support of Salix, a government owned organisation facilitating the delivery of the funding.

The bid outlined the need for an estate’s strategy towards decarbonisation and heat decarbonisation plans. This includes gathering critical data to assess potential upgrades in building fabric to achieve optimal carbon savings and exploring alternative heating solutions to reduce carbon emissions.

RLB has worked with Inspire since 2018, supporting previous CIF bids for school improvement and enhancements as well as several multi-academy Trusts to obtain funding to support estate optimisation.

Phase 5 of the Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund has provided £15 million of grant funding for the financial year 2024 to 2025 for eligible public sector bodies and awarded 118 public sector organisations grants for heat decarbonisation plans.

Ann Abel, CFO at Inspire Learning Trust comments:

We were delighted to be one of the Trusts that has been awarded heat decarbonisation funding from Salix on behalf of the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. The RLB team was integral in supporting our bid, providing detailed, reliable information on how the funding would propel our decarbonisation agenda. Their expertise in sustainable built environments is unparalleled, and their ability to present complex information clearly allowed us to access funds such as the Phase 5 Low Carbon Skills Fund.

Thomas Worrall, Senior Building Surveyor at RLB UK comments:

We have collaborated with the Inspire Learning Trust over several years now, advising their team on securing funding available through initiatives like this one. Using data to pinpoint sustainability improvements is vital not only for informing their estates strategy but also for the Trust’s broader net zero ambitions.

Salix programme manager Christopher Masters said:

“Congratulations to Inspire Learning Trust, this funding will progress a very important part of the Trust’s net zero plan. We are looking forward to working with the Trust and to see how the heat decarbonisation plan will set out the future for their buildings, making them not only more energy efficient but more comfortable places to enjoy.”
