A tribute to our beloved colleague and friend, Ian Blakeman (‘Blakey’)

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the death of our dear colleague Ian Blakeman, who passed away on Thursday 24 July, following an accident.

Ian began his career in 1984 and spent the last seven years as a valued member of the RLB family in the London and Europe Cost Management Team.

Throughout a very successful career and as a Senior Partner, Ian’s influence was immense, both in a professional and personal capacity. He was recognised and respected throughout the industry for his in-depth knowledge and was seen as a legend of the data centre sector. Most importantly, to his team, Ian was a cherished friend and mentor.

In his passing, we recognise the huge impact Ian had on the RLB business and wider industry. His wise counsel and readiness to share his wealth of expertise was appreciated as much as his unassuming dry sense of humour, dependability and ability to create a real team spirit.

His colleagues have spoken of his innate ability to make people smile and laugh without even trying. He took pride in sharing his vast knowledge with others and wouldn’t hesitate to make time for anyone who needed help, which is why he held so many connections and was valued by the many people who worked with him throughout his career.

Ian played a significant role in the development of so many surveyors throughout his long career that it is hard to measure the full extent of his influence, but it has been immense. He has been integral in the growth of the RLB specialist services team, leaving a legacy as RLB having one of the largest M&E cost management teams in the industry.

Ian has left an enduring mark on RLB – together we celebrate his work ethic and achievements, his joyous personality, and his generosity of spirit that touched so many. He will be sorely missed.

There will be a memorial service held to honour Ian in the coming weeks. His family welcome all those who knew Ian to join them in sharing memories of him and celebrating his wonderful life. Please contact Nick.Eliot@uk.rlb.com for further details.
