Collating information from January-June 2020, the EMEA Hotels Monitor, produced by Whitebridge Hospitality, RLB and STR, looks at trend analysis within the European hotel sector especially in light of performance, costs and transactions. In this issue, RLB has also produced a feature looking at the cost drivers of international brand standards when delivering projects around the world.
Not surprisingly this issue covering the last six months reflects the devastating impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the sector with every single market recording negative RevPAR performance. However, the good news is that in terms of development costs, tender pricing has remained relatively stable with lower productivity countering lower prices from reduced activity and a good number of deals and ‘resort’ transactions, especially in Greece, Italy and Portugal having taken place. However, the report does reflect we are not out of crisis planning and into recovery phase just yet – with receivership scenarios beginning to be seen, especially in the UK.
