A contemporary, architecturally striking riverside development in the heart of a vibrant community in the historic Isle of Dogs, where old traditions of the East End meet its exciting creative future.

NEW UNION WHARF

A collaborative and community led transformation of a 1970’s housing estate to provide modern, energy efficient, high-quality homes with vibrant new public spaces and riverside walkway.

The sustainable redevelopment of a ‘brownfield’ site, New Union Wharf involved the demolition of 189 existing homes, replaced with 399 new build, modern and energy efficient mixed-tenure apartments in multiple blocks, reaching 14 storeys in height.

Public realm works included upgrades to the river wall, new courtyards, communal podium garden, a community centre and a neighborhood office.

Collaboration between L&Q, the development team and the local community was key to the successful delivery of the project.

RLB worked collaboratively with all the parties to create a vision for the 8-year development/decanting programme ensuring that residents choices were embedded in the process.

An efficient and transparent delivery model was established with all parties to encourage joint working to identify and resolve challenges at an early stage and to set out the long-term delivery of the project in line with the community’s aspirations and vision.
