LEICESTER ROYAL INFIRMARY EXPANSION
RLB is providing services at Leicester Royal Infirmary for the £48 million expansion of its central accident and emergency department.
This 8,000 square-metre development includes a new 4,250 square-metre emergency department, and a 3,750 square-metre refurbishment of existing facilities.
The existing department was originally built to accommodate 100,000 patients a year. This is predicted to increase to 181,000 by 2017.
The work will meet the increased demand, by providing a modern facility with a ‘single front door’ entrance to stream patients according to their needs.
The new department will include; Adult ED, Children’s ED, Acute Care, Paediatric Assessment, Clinical Support including x-ray and CT; GP initial assessment; rapid assessment and support space.
The multi-phase program started in 2015, with the new facility due to open in July 2016.
