TWGHs E-CO VILLAGE
TWGH's E-Co Village is Hong Kong's first environmental education hub established on a revitalized landfill site, dedicated to promoting a green lifestyle and environmental sustainability.
Initiated by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGH), this development leverages the Environmental Protection Department’s “Restored Landfill Revitalization Funding Scheme” to transform the first phase of the Tseung Kwan O landfill into a vibrant public space, offering a diverse range of recreational facilities and innovative services to the community.
Spanning approximately 2 hectares, E-Co Village is designed with two platforms centered around a heart-shaped lawn, symbolizing the concept of “starting with heart” to encourage environmental initiatives. Guided by the principle of “turning waste into energy,” E-Co Village demonstrates its commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainable development through its architectural planning, material selection, energy-efficient installations, and activity programming. Facilities include a no-fire camping area, community farm, kinetic children’s playground, renewable energy setups, and eco-art installations, providing hands-on sustainability experiences for individuals of all ages and inspiring them to embrace a low-carbon lifestyle.
Additionally, E-Co Village has earned a provisional Platinum rating from the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s “BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2” and “BEAM Plus Neighbourhood Version 1.0,” acknowledging its exceptional achievements in environmentally friendly construction.
