In the 2009-2010 Policy Address, the HKSAR Government announced the “Conserving Central” Initiative with the plan to conserve and convert the iconic Murray Building into a hotel. Situated in a prime location in Central, Murray Building is a 27-storey building completed in 1969 by the Public Works Department. Today, the alteration and addition work has converted this former Government office building into a luxury high-end hotel. The Murray is one of the city’s most anticipated hotel openings of this decade.
In order to implement all design concepts within the budget, more than 90% of the sub-contract works was awarded prior to the commencement of main work. This ensures cost certainty to the client at the beginning of the project. There was also strong cost control during construction stage, such as providing estimates for procurement, which helped the client managing construction costs within the budget.
