Pacific Business News, a publication of the American City Business Journals, announced Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) as one of Hawaii’s Best Workplaces in 2018, an honor that recognizes the company for going beyond the norm to foster an enjoyable and meaningful work environment for its employees.
An Employee-Driven Effort
With nomination initiated by a member of the Honolulu team, and in its first year of participation, RLB placed among the top three companies in the medium-size business category having been evaluated against other Hawaii-based companies statewide in diverse industries.
The selection process involved employees from each participating company completing an engagement survey conducted by Quantum Workplace — the national research partner of American City Business Journals for its Best Workplaces recognition events in majority of its 43 markets — and providing candid feedback about their company’s culture and individual work experience. Employees from RLB’s Honolulu, Waikoloa, Hilo and Maui offices all contributed their input earning RLB recognition for creating a top-notch work environment.
People, Projects, Collaboration
Citing the top three reasons RLB employees love coming to work every day, the Hawaii team offered the following comments:
People – You would go far to find such smart, devoted and enthusiastic people as we have at RLB. Our employees come from diverse backgrounds, so we continually learn from one another to offer innovative approaches to construction projects. We are passionate in our work and will always go above and beyond for each other and our clients. In addition, RLB nurtures skillful, confident leaders by supporting continued learning, professional development opportunities and constructive reviews that allow each member of the team to embrace their role confidently and excel in their desired career path.
Projects – Our team is motivated by opportunities to bring exciting construction projects to life. Through our technical expertise and out-of-the box thinking, we thrive in meeting new challenges and helping our clients be successful. Pushing the boundaries of traditional professional services delivery is what sets RLB apart, and when a project calls, we push geographic boundaries as well – some members of the Hawaii team have taken advantage of the company’s unique relocation support benefit that has allowed us to expand our services across key North American markets; others regularly travel across the island, to neighbor islands, and even abroad to exceed our clients’ needs and expectations.
Collaboration – We value building strong, long-term relationships among our team, our clients and partners in the construction industry. By encouraging our team to laugh, engage and have fun with each other and our clients as we work together, we have developed a sense of ohana that extends far beyond the workplace. We find opportunities and take time out of our busy working schedules to recognize project milestones, share lessons learned, and celebrate professional and personal achievements, whether through our monthly all-staff mixer, attending events and conferences together, or a casual lunch gathering over pizza.
