Sustainability: Raising the bar

‘Eco-paints’ and recycled stone are just two of the sustainable materials sourced for the eco-friendly Bar at World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2011, confirms Rider Levett Bucknall.

The leading independent property and cost consultant, which has more than 120 offices throughout the world,  has signed up as global sponsors of the high profile hospitality area after reaping the benefits of visiting the Festival last year.

The wood for the side panels was sourced from FSC approved forests and coloured with vegetable based paints.  The countertop was produced from recycled stone; sourced from a local company in Spain, where the festival is being hosted.
Chief Executive Lance Taylor said that the ‘eco-bar’ commission followed in the firm’s footsteps of providing advice focused on the cost, quality and sustainability of the built environment.

“Focusing on sustainability is a priority when it comes to the way we do business.  We operate a Responsible Management approach which helps clients to spend less money by delivering more efficient, cost conscious and sustainable results for their property portfolio and business.

“When it came to preparing for WAF we adopted the same approach when designing the bar, particularly as it is a temporary structure.  We are fully aware of the growing importance of sustainability in design and thought this was a perfect way to reflect the Rider Levett Bucknall ethos at the Festival.”

The bar was designed and manufactured by Giles Miller Studios. The bar countertop was produced by Cosentino.
