Rider Levett Bucknall invited by Jamaica Prime Minister to participate in Jamaica Investment Forum

Martyn Bould, chairman of Rider Levett Bucknall in the Caribbean, was invited by the Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica to attend the Jamaica Investment Forum held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, March 1-2, 2012.

The Forum assembled leaders of Government and Construction, Tourism, Banking and Manufacturing industries for focused discussion and networking to review the many opportunities available in Jamaica for business persons and their advisers.

The Forum was divided in to plenary and sectoral sessions.  The conference opened with an “Invest in Jamaica-Invest in a Global Brand” session led by the Prime Minister and featuring Honorable Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry Investment and Commerce, and Mr. Stephen Puig the Vice President for the Private Sector of the Inter-American Investment Bank as guest speakers.  The session described why Jamaica’s infrastructure – and its existence as the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean – make it such an attractive environment for foreign direct investment in the Caribbean.

A televised message form Hilary Clinton Secretary of State for the United States was delivered by Mr Kris Balderston Special Representative for Global Partnerships, U.S. Department of State.

The ease of access of Jamaica to the North American consumer and favorable trade arrangements with other important global markets were discussed by guest speakers Phillip Vandervoort of Microsoft, Arthur Lok Jack Chairman of Associated Brands Investments Ltd, who were in turn introduced by the Most Honourable PJ Paterson former Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Given that Jamaica is home to four of the world’s top ten outsourcing companies, additional sectoral sessions were delivered which covered Business Process Outsourcing and IT Export Services.

Tourism investment in Jamaica was featured in sessions which noted that Jamaica is home to many award winning indigenous hotel brands as well as top hotel chains.  The availability of land and hotel properties across the island makes it ideally suited for resort development presents exciting opportunities.

Manufacturing investors noted that Jamaica’s excellent location for both regional and international markets will be further enhanced with the expansion of the Panama Canal, with the Port of Kingston being one of only a few ports in the Caribbean with the ability to accommodate post-Panama ships.
Martyn was delighted with the opportunity to introduce Rider Levett Bucknall’s services and long standing Caribbean experience backed with its global resources to a wide and influential group of business and Government leaders.
