Client: Arctic Slope Native Association

Services: Cost Management & Quantity Surveying, Project Management

Overview

This collaborative effort between the Arctic Slope Native Association and the Indian Health Service involved replacing an existing 30,000 square-foot, wood-constructed hospital with a new 100,000 square-foot, modern critical care facility, to provide the villages of the North Slope of Alaska with the most advanced healthcare services.

New hospital construction included an emergency department, dental department, pharmacy, lab space, and other healthcare support areas. The hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, and pharmacy services for the entire North Slope region.

RIM Architects and HDR Architecture paid special attention to creating a design that embraced the culture of the Inupiat people while employing cutting-edge technologies to ensure a high level of patient care. Both design and construction teams partnered with local residents to ensure their needs were met.

The Details

RLB’s role began with a market analysis of potential construction scheduling, logistical, and cost challenges associated with building this type of facility in such remote, harsh conditions.

We then provided cost consultancy services to the architecture team during design. RLB was subsequently hired to provide owner’s representative and project management services throughout construction, FF&E installation, commissioning, and project close-out.
