RLB appoints sector specialists

November 20, 2015.

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) has appointed sector heads for its key areas of specialism.

The move will help the firm maximise its potential in six core sectors, ensuring customers benefit from the shared knowledge of a fully integrated team. This also supports the strategy behind its 2020 business growth plan.

The sectors are Education, Residential, Retail, Nuclear, Commercial and Sport, with the firm demonstrating a strong track record in each across all service lines and many well-established client relationships.

Each sector head is supported by a national sector group, which were formed earlier this year to develop specific strategies to target work, develop services and share insights and knowledge throughout the business.

RLB Chairman Ann Bentley said: ‘We felt that the importance of the sectors should be underlined by recognising the essential role that the sector specialists are playing in sharing their personal expertise and bringing these groups together.’

She added, ‘Traditionally, our consultants focus on services they provide, rather than the areas our clients work in. For us, this is the latest move in making sure that the customer is top of the agenda, and we are fully aligned with their businesses.’

Sector heads:

Education: Stephen Scott

As part of our Thames Valley office, Stephen has spearheaded the development of a centre of excellence for our services to the education sector.

He has worked with one of our key clients, the University of Reading, for nearly fifteen years delivering a range of facilities for the UK campus and its overseas offer in Malaysia.

His proactive approach to projects ensures that cost effective solutions are achieved, and that teams work collaboratively, to deliver the best possible outcomes.

Residential: Paul Sambrook

Paul has been providing strategic leadership in this sector for over 15 years, delivering major private and public residential led mixed tenure schemes. His clients include blue chip private residential developers, national house-builders, investors and public sector regeneration specialists.

His expertise includes £300 million+ private residential mixed use developments, £3 billion + master-planning, residential towers and PRS led schemes.  His team in London are currently working on a range of multi-million pound projects in prime locations including the City, West End, Greenwich, and Canary Wharf.

Retail: Julian King

Julian has a wealth of experience working with leading retailers and retail property companies, and is responsible for the development and leadership of our retail sector nationally.

He is the architect of many of the innovative tools, techniques and processes adopted by RLB, to deliver our unique approach to programme and project management. These tools have assisted in the management of successful national and international programmes. They include mobile working platforms, data-base systems, innovative data capture processes, data analytics, and real time dashboard reporting systems.

With a background in airport retail, Julian has a full understanding of the retail development process.  He leads our teams delivering national refurbishment programmes and major new store development programmes.

Julian’s 25 years of leadership brings a strong sense of process, and an excellent knowledge of working with multi stakeholder clients and operational environments.

Nuclear: John Bradshaw

John is an experienced business leader with a successful portfolio of developing businesses, improving operational efficiency and developing capability across both owner/client, contractor and consultancy businesses.

He has extensive knowledge in the nuclear sector, and a proven track record of instigating and delivering change, and innovative thinking in challenging highly regulated environments.

He is also an appointed mentor on the NDA’s Estate SME Mentoring Scheme.

Commercial: Matt Brooker

As RLB’s commercial sector specialist, Matt has established loyal and long term relationships with some of the largest developers and portfolio holders in the country, as well as their wider consultant teams.

His cost planning and modelling skills are paired with a deep understanding of the development factors that impact on successful delivery. His current projects embrace the full spectrum of commercial development, from CAT A fit-out and refurbishment, through to new development, and range in scale from one-off projects to major regeneration projects.

Sport: Russell Lloyd

With the success of London 2012 adding to RLB’s sport portfolio, Russell has taken the sport sector from strength to strength. Together with fellow Partner, David Higgins, he has worked with organising committees across a number of international sporting events. These include the Olympic, European and Commonwealth Games, as well as the Rugby World Cup, supporting both bid processes and event overlay delivery.

Stadium and arena developments include FC Barcelona, AS Roma and Everton FC. Russell understands the challenging aspects of these bespoke and landmark projects, in relation to benchmarks and key cost drivers.
